Family (headcanon)

Well. Where does family stop and the tribe begin? Nowhere, that’s where. They’re all her brothers and sisters if they’re close, or cousins, if they don’t show up too often. They’re nomads, so they tend to spread thin until they group up at Circle Junction out in Colorado, southeast of where Denver used to be. Up until Circle Junction folded under, anyway. As for direct family, she had a dad, a mom, grandparents, maybe some actual siblings. Chances of them still being alive? Not high. They kept getting hassled by raiders, which quickly enough turned into Legion. Some of them moved on, following the rails. The ones that didn’t are gone, either to the bullet or the Legion, which is close enough.
She has some cousins that still walk the lines here in the Mojave. They’re not always around, and they don’t always talk because she veers from those lines and onto the roads, but they’re close enough. Getting in contact with them’s an issue, but it’s not a new one, and she’s not worried about it. They’ll all meet again, one way or another.
But let’s call it for two cousins in/around the Mojave. One’s near Outer Vegas and the other’s in NCR territory (you know, by taking that train line that cuts across near Nipton?). They probably prefer to live in old abandoned boxcars as opposed to actual housing, so that’s where they’d be camping for now. There’s probably a good few more in California, actually. Gotta play keep away from the Legion and all that. That’s where her brothers live. Yeah, brothers. And one sister.
Cousins:
Jeffrey Alan: Easy going, if not actually outgoing. Chill, y’know? Calm. Everything’s groovy if we just stay calm. Lax, though, if you’re being charitable about it. Their repairs are always hodge podge. Tend to beg off from other folks. Gotten even worse now that they’re up near Vegas. Too easy to loose caps, and too many ways to try and win them back. Worse, they’re thinking of settling down. Easily tempted. Younger than her, and doesn’t remember as much about the old days. Just running. And he’s gotten real tired of it. (18)
Judy Ellen: Paranoid. Suspicious. Kind of a loner, even at the best of times. Jumpy, y’know? Good head for directions. Bad head for helping out. Always wants something for it. Doesn’t trust nobody these days. This’d be the one who just crossed over into Cali not long before Nipton went down. Cutting it close, there. She walks more than she stops, and she never stays put for long. Doesn’t like to leave tracks or loose ends. Old enough to know better than that. (35)
Brothers (and Sister):
Danny Mark: Social. Easy to get along with. Flirty. The popular kid, if anyone’d bother keeping track of such things. Doesn’t keep promises, but sure likes making them. Ended up with a harmonica some time ago from trading, hasn’t let go of it since. Tries hard to keep in touch with everyone, now that they’re spread so thin. Makes most things seem so effortless. Just don’t ask him to fix anything up, because he’ll just kick the task down the line. Younger than her, but not by much. (26)
Eli Dale: Gearhead. Tinkers and tailors, but not much of a soldier or spy. Never met a roll of duct tape he didn’t like. Gets lost in engines, if you let him. He’s got a stutter, and even without that, he never seems to know what to say to people. He chatters while he works, but that’s about it. No head for directions. Gets lost pretty easily. Always travels with Danny. He remembers stories more than the places he’s been. A little superstitious, if there’s writing on the wall. Youngest of the lot. (22)
Cathy Jane: Punchy. She’ll kick everyone’s ass save her own. Doesn’t take shit, even a little. If she fixes something, it’s with sheer stubbornness. Breaks it more easily. Charges in to deal with her problems head on. If that creates more problems, so be it. Like a rock, not a housefire. If she’s really mad, you’ll know. Holy shit, will you know. Solid and dependable. Practical, too. Levelheaded. Found herself a husband, has a kid or two. Has yet to settle down. The oldest of the lot. (35)
How much of this Sue actually remembers varies depending on how much those two bullets to the skull does, of course.
Oh, and for the record: the Iron Lines do technically exist in game canon, or, well, developer's word of game canon. They're probably much different than this, though, so take everything up here with several helpings of salt sprinkled over liberties.
